The idea of artistcanvases having such a site came to Lile while she was involved in an open studios event in April. She was displaying many of her new oil paintings in her studio when a friend and young entrepeneur came through and wanted to purchase an oil painting entitled "Art on the Net". They talked about how wonderful it would be to have art up on the Internet for viewing and he offered Lile internet access for a WWW site that would help artists share their art. So like many things in the art world, the site began with a barter with Lile trading the oil painting, "Art on the artistcanvases and artistcanvases Net" for an Internet connection for one year.

On artistcanvases view artistcanvases throughout the Museum are an especially varied range of objects, images, and room-sized installations, including masterworks artistcanvases by some of the most influential artists of the past forty years, along with an impressive number of recently artistcanvases acquired works by emerging artists. Open Ends includes eleven distinct exhibitions and ten large-scale works and installations that examine key themes and lines of affinity that define contemporary art and artists. The exhibition opens in three stages. Architecture Hot and Cold presents a wide range of images of architecture principally artistcanvases drawn from the Museum’s collections of photographs and architectural drawings. The exhibition includes works by architects including Archigram and Rem Koolhaas are shown alongside the photography of Andreas Gursky and Robert Adams, for example, as well as works in different media by artists such as Gordon Matta-Clark, Andy artistcanvases Warhol, and Joel Shapiro.
